How to ACE a Video Interview

In the digital age, Video interviews are one of the newest mainstream methods of assessment. Most video interviews follow the same format as a regular interview but are held over Zoom, Skype, or a similar application. The 2020 coronavirus pandemic has seen recruiting companies opting for video as opposed to face-to-face interviews to adhere to social distancing rules. Video interviews will likely continue to be a more convenient way to host interviews, even as workplaces return to normal. 

In this article, we will give some points to keep in mind and make a lasting impression from a video interview? 

1. Keep it short:

Just as everyone's resume or CV should be a page long, your video should be short and to the point. While you can employ such mind tricks during the interview process. Even great leaders or politicians take short pauses to express their points. Everyone should be comfortable and convey the main points during the interview. The ability to collate information and communicate it efficiently is an essential graduate skill and will be one of the important things that the interviewer is looking for during an interview.

2. Practice 'To Camera'

Practicing in front of the camera is one of the best ways to prepare for a video interview to get comfortable and to become familiar with the format of the interview. It increases our confidence level and shows authenticity to the panel. One should also avoid Common mistakes, including speaking too fast or too quietly and not looking at the camera. We naturally speed up our articulation when nervous which can pose the risk of the interview reviewers not understanding you. One can copy the style of Youtubers- how confidently they are conveying their views or points to the audience.

3.Look Confident

You never know that how you come across on-screen until you record yourself taking and watch the result. Yes, it can be painful, but it gives you a chance to practice and correct any unfortunate habits and stands out in the interview. You can also practice the specific question that you know that it might be asked during the interview. Deliver your answer directly to the camera, watch the result, and adjust as necessary for next time. The dressing is also an important part so one should dress for a video interview just as you would for a regular interview.

4. Make eye contact

This is one of the main factors for effective communication to crack any interview. To achieve perfect eye contact via video, you will need to look directly into your webcam. In a live video interview, you will have to look at your interviewer's on the screen so you can respond to them properly. For a better experience, resize the window and move it as close to your webcam as possible.

5. Eliminate all the technical glitch

 One should properly check all the requirements for the video interview process. If possible, do a trial run with the application you will use in the interview.  "Sorry, I just can't get the webcam working!" these type of words an interviewer is least wants to hear. Make sure to double-check camera and mic work in other applications and keep your fingers crossed. A good internet connection is also vital. One should also organize a backup location at other's place in case your broadband has a bad day.

Mistakes to avoid during the interview process:

1.Not able to understand the Critical thinking and problem solving being assessed and present a view properly.

2.Misjudging how long you have to understand, have a proper time frame to answer properly.

3.Lack of Familiarity with the process.

4.Thinking that everyone else knows exactly what to do.
